HELPFUL TIPS FOR WRITING THE COMMISSIONERS

IMPORTANT:

  • You’ll write your message in the text box on Step 2, where it says “Personalize your message.”
  • Your message will be sent separately to each commissioner.
  • Don’t click the “Send message” button until you write your message.
  • REMEMBER TO DELETE THE TEXT THAT SAYS “[DELTE THIS TEXT AND INSERT YOUR MESSAGE HERE]”

Have questions? Check out this video tutorial about using Better Wyoming forms to email legislators.

YOUR MESSAGE SHOULD HAVE THREE SHORT PARTS:

1. Say who you are.

Make sure to tell them that you’re a voter in Albany County.

My name is ____. I’m a voter in Laramie.

2. Say what you want.

I’m writing today in support of the Rock Creek Wind Project.

OR

I’m writing today to ask that you vote to approve the Rock Creek Wind Project.

3. Say why you want it.

[This is where you can add a sentence or two about why it’s important for you that Albany County embrace clean power development. See talking points below.]

PRO TIPS

Keep it brief: Lawmakers get tons of emails. If you write them a novel, they’re not going to read it.

Change the message subject: This will let them know your email is not spam.

TALKING POINTS

Maybe mention a few of these things in your message.

  • Wyoming and Albany County depend too much on tax revenue from fossil fuels to fund critical public services like roads and schools. The Rock Creek Wind Project will generate nearly $200 million in local and state taxes that can help us move away from fossil fuel dependence.
  • The Rock Creek Wind Farm will create dozens of permanent, high-paying jobs for local residents, further developing our local clean energy industry. The project will also employ hundreds of people during the construction phase for up to several years.
  • Wyoming and Albany County are already experiencing the impacts of climate change, mostly notably via increased wildfires and drought. These will only get worse as we continue to burn fossil fuels for energy. We need to move quickly toward renewable energy to prevent the worst of climate change, especially for young people and our children.

Tell the commissioners:
