It’s that most exciting—and sometimes terrifying—time of the year!
No, we don’t mean Christmas … we’re talking about the Legislative session!
This year, with the extremist Freedom Caucus in charge, things are going to be different at the Wyoming Capitol.
We don’t harbor dreams of persuading lawmakers to do helpful things like expand Medicaid or invest in affordable housing. It’s just not realistic.
But that doesn’t mean we’re just sitting back and chilling—and it certainly doesn’t mean there aren’t important opportunities for folks like you to step up and make a difference.
Here are three concrete things you can do to get involved with Better Wyoming for the Legislature’s 2025 session:
1. Help us educate your community.
This is probably the most important thing you can do. It is clear that most Wyomingites simply do not know what their representatives are up to at the capitol.
Better Wyoming will work to change that with our Grassroots Accountability Campaign that involves folks like you sharing information about how your local lawmakers vote on critical issues.

2. Learn what’s happening at a “teach-in”
We know that what goes on at the Legislature is complex and sometimes confusing. Better Wyoming is hosting two online events in early January to provide folks deep dives into two critical issues that will come up this session to dispel some of the mystery.
The first, on Jan. 9, will look at the Wyoming Department of Health’s budget request to increase funding for maternal care and behavioral health, as well as the attempts by groups outside the state to block this funding.
The second, on Jan. 16, will be a partnership with our friends at the Wyoming Education Association and PEER that will look at the problem of private school vouchers and how the Freedom Caucus is looking to divert public money from our schools.

3. Help advocate for affordable healthcare
The Healthy Wyoming coalition—of which Better Wyoming is a proud part—will host a day at the capitol where folks like you can help educate and encourage lawmakers to find solutions for the “coverage gap” in Wyoming that leaves nearly 20,000 people without access to healthcare.
Attend a training and join us to speak with legislators about the problems caused by a lack of affordable healthcare in our state so we can hold them accountable to find solutions.
Support is available for folks traveling from outside Cheyenne.

This legislative session is going to be a doozy, but it is still an opportunity for folks like you to make a difference and fight for a better future for us, our communities, and our state.
