Why You Should Vote Down the Ballot...
Wyoming voters showed up in record numbers for the primary election this August, effectively deciding on key races from governor to (most) state legislator seats.
But not all the important races have been decided. This Tuesday, Nov. 3, some extremely important questions will be decided by Wyoming voters.
On your general election ballot, there are other important races at the bottom of your ballot. Here you’ll see contests that shape your community every single day.
We’re talking about school board elections. City council races. Local ballot measures and statewide propositions. The outcome of this election will touch your life in ways that federal elections don’t.
Think about your local school board. They decide what your kids can read in the classroom, what they’re taught, and what policies support their education. They decide which schools stay open and which ones close. And they control one of the largest employers in your community.
Then there’s your city council. City council members influence housing in your community: whether affordable homes get built, how zoning works, and what financial tools the city uses to support working families. They impact which businesses come to town, how the city supports the entrepreneurs already here, and how your tax dollars get spent on the services your neighborhood relies on.
And on the general election ballot, every Wyoming voter will see Proposition #1. It’s a measure that would cut property taxes by 50%. Before you vote, you should know what property taxes actually pay for: your local schools, hospitals, fire and emergency services, roads and infrastructure, the conservation districts that protect Wyoming’s land, water, and wildlife, and more. This decision will have lasting consequences and it deserves our attention and your vote.
These down-ballot races are decided by small margins. We saw it in the primary: races decided by 250 votes, 100 votes, even six votes. Local elections are even closer. That means that every single person who shows up multiplies the impact. Your vote carries more weight here than almost anywhere else on the ballot.
Early voting is underway, and you can vote through Election Day on November 3rd. Make your voice heard in the races that hit closest to home. That means voting all the way down the ballot.
