Better Wyoming’s dark money network, EXPOSED!

Wyoming’s 2026 primary election saw the second highest voter turnout in the state’s history.

This high voter enthusiasm was a direct response to the so-called Wyoming Freedom Caucus and their failed agenda, which has dominated state politics over the past several years.

Two main outcomes resulted.

First, the Freedom Caucus was removed from power (and, for the most part, from the Legislature).

Second, there were suddenly A LOT of upset Freedom Caucus legislators with free time on their hands.

Rather than self-reflecting on the unpopular policies and actions that turned the people of Wyoming against them, these ousted lawmakers and their friends began pointing fingers and blaming everyone under the sun—aside from themselves—for their defeat.

More than one Freedom Caucus finger has been pointed squarely at Better Wyoming, and specifically the “dark money network” behind our nefarious operation.

“Dark” Money in Wyoming politics

To be clear, there is too much money in Wyoming politics. But for the Freedom Caucus to be complaining about it is, frankly, laughable.

That’s because it was the Freedom Caucus—and, specifically, the Washington, D.C.-based State Freedom Caucus Network and their cronies—that brought big money to legislative elections in Wyoming in the first place.

For instance, Virginia-based Make Liberty Win spent more than half a million dollars in 2026 backing Freedom Caucus candidates. That was even more than the $370,000 they spent in 2024. This is in addition to the boatloads of out-of-state cash spent on races for U.S. House and Wyoming Governor.

Elections in Wyoming have more than doubled in price over the past decade. Much of the increased cost directly results from out-of-state groups trying to install far-right candidates into the Wyoming Legislature, and other candidates trying to keep up.

Better Wyoming’s “dark” money network, EXPOSED!

Since they brought it up, let’s talk about Better Wyoming’s funding.

Better Wyoming operates on a budget of about half a million dollars a year.

A little less than half of that is “organizational giving” from foundations or other groups.

The organizations that do give to us are almost entirely based in Wyoming. These include the George B. Storer Foundation, the Natrona Collective Health Trust, the Wyoming Community Foundation, Healthy Wyoming, and the Wyoming Donor Alliance.

Meanwhile, the majority of our funding comes from personal donations, and we get a whole lot of them!

In our last budget year, Better Wyoming received funding from more than 500 donors, most of whom gave less than $1,000.

On WyoGives Day, the annual statewide day of giving for nonprofits, Better Wyoming regularly ranks among the Top Ten out of all organizations in the state for the number of people who give.

This last July, Better Wyoming ranked #8 of out 515 organizations for total number of donors, with over 223 generous contributors. Each and every single donor was from Wyoming!

We won’t lie to you though. We do occasionally receive out-of-state donations. We needed two-whole hands to count them up. In the past 12 months, a whopping 6 donations have come from out of state donors (we have to admit … we wish we had more, too).

The heart of Better Wyoming’s funding comes from everyday folks around Wyoming who believe in the work we do, and we couldn’t do it without their support.

Better Wyoming’s real power (it is you)

The Freedom Caucus is a national organization. Freedom Caucus lawmakers get their marching orders from D.C and are told how to vote on bills impacting everyday Wyomingites.

Better Wyoming is different. Our power doesn't come from out-of-state donors or national organizations.

Our power comes from the nearly 4,000 residents who have stood up, spoken out, and taken action with us in the past year to push back against the Freedom Caucus' agenda.

Political power doesn't have to come from being part of some wealthy national network. It can come from people right here, who care about our communities and are willing to do something about it.

And that's exactly why the Freedom Caucus wants to put a target on Better Wyoming. They suffered the consequences of what happens when Wyomingites organize and start demanding better from their elected officials.

That's the real story behind Better Wyoming's so-called "dark money network."

It's not a conspiracy. It's not some shady group of operatives. It's people right here in Wyoming who believe their voices matter and are willing to do the work to make sure they're heard.

P.S. And you can help support this “dark money network” by making a donation today!
