For the past month or so Better Wyoming organizers and volunteers have been gathering in the weirdest places for our voter mobilization campaign.
It may seem odd, but we’ve been meeting on pickleball courts, at coffee shops and bars, public libraries, or hanging around campfires in folks' backyards.
We call these small gatherings “friendbanks,” and the idea is super cool and simple. Basically, we get our friends together, say 5-10 people, and we have them reach out to all of their friends and family.
Unlike other ways to mobilize voters (phone banks, door-to-door canvassing, you name it) friendbanks are far more effective and fun! Everyone brings their own list of contacts and we spend time calling or texting people, reminding them to register to vote, sharing important election information, and encouraging them to make their voices heard.
The awesome thing about friendbanks lies in how effective they are. People are more likely to listen and respond positively when the message comes from someone they know and trust. This personal touch makes a huge difference in getting people motivated and engaged.
And it's not just about the calls and texts. Friendbanks are a chance to connect and build a sense of community around a common goal, making our Wyoming communities stronger, better places for us to live. Just spending 15 minutes reaching out to the people in our phone list can make a real impact.
Better Wyoming volunteers have already reached out to thousands of their neighbors asking them to join in on making their communities a better place to live. This strategy has led to hundreds of folks pledging their commitment to vote, and we are just getting started!
If you're inspired by the idea of hosting your own friendbank, we’d love to help you get started. Whether you want to gather in your living room, at your favorite local hangout, or even around a campfire, we can provide all the resources and support you need. Just reach out to us, and we’ll guide you through the process. Let’s make a difference together, one friend at a time!
