Are you a Wyoming resident who has a significant hearing loss but limited income to obtain medically necessary hearing aids?
Last year the Legislature created the Adult Hearing Aid program. Funding is available to support approximately 30 to 34 eligible applicants statewide who are at least 18 years old.
The program is for individuals who are not eligible to receive hearing aids through private insurance, Medicaid, Medicare or any other available third-party payor. The department encourages people to apply for Medicaid to see if they qualify for such assistance.
Unfortunately, the Freedom Caucus-controlled House Appropriations Committee has made it clear the Department of Health has a target on its back. Much like the so-called DOGE federal budget cut program, the panel proposed a subcommittee to look for funding to axe.
Hopefully this new program, which benefits hearing-impaired people who need medical equipment, won’t fall victim to extremists in the Freedom Caucus.
