THE ADVOCACY TOOLKIT

Working for change in Wyoming isn’t easy. But here are some tools that can help you rabble-rouse and advocate.

WRITING TO YOUR STATE LEGISLATORS

HOW TO WRITE A GREAT LETTER TO LAWMAKERS USING OUR ONLINE FORMS

Have you ever wished it was easier to connect with your elected officials and make your voice heard?

Check out this short video tutorial about how to send an email to the Wyoming Legislature using Better Wyoming’s online forms.

Your messages to legislators matter. Your voice is one of the best tools we have to share stories and influence lawmakers on issues like Medicaid expansion.

That’s why Better Wyoming is working to simplify how you connect with your legislators. Watch the video and be on your way to more effective communication with your elected officials!

WELCOME TO OUR “REACH” PILOT

Help Better Wyoming test out a new “relational organizing” tool while advocating for Medicaid expansion

You’ve been invited to a special pilot project to help us build support in Wyoming for Medicaid expansion! Once you’ve installed Reach on your smartphone, please complete the three steps below.

Step 1: Invite five friends

Start by recruiting five friends you think might be interested in helping convince the Wyoming Legislature’s Revenue Committee to support expanding Medicaid.

How to add contacts

1. Search for your friends to see if they’re already in Reach (spoiler: probably not) using the “Search” function at the bottom of the screen.

2. If your friend is already in Reach, great! If not, you’ll have to add them (see Step 3).

3. Tap the “+” button where it says “Add someone.”

4. Fill in as much of your friend’s information as you have, answer the questions about their support for Medicaid expansion, and tap “Add” at the top of your screen. That’s it!

Step 2: Engage your friends

With Reach, you can contact your friends and family through email or text using prewritten scripts that you can edit and customize. You can also use Reach to call your friends.

How to connect

1. Start by clicking “My Reach” at the bottom of your screen and selecting one of the people in your network.

2. Decide how you want to contact this person from the options at the top of the screen. We suggest text or email so you can use our customizable scripts.

3. Once you’ve chosen “email” or “text,” you’ll see the pre-written script(s). You can choose to use one or start with a blank message. Then, send your message!

Rest assured: Your messages are always secure and private and will be sent through the email or text application on your phone. Also, Reach doesn’t data mine, so your friends’ information won’t be sold to Amazon or anything like that.

Step 3: Join the conversation

You’re working alongside others when you use Reach, and Reach helps you connect with your fellow advocates.

Check out the “Chat” function at the bottom of the screen. This is a virtual space where we can talk.

You can share notes about how your messages to others are going, share your story about why Medicaid expansion is important to you, and swap intel you’ve heard about what’s happening at the legislature.

Drop us a line to let us know you’ve successfully got Reach going, added some friends, and want to get further involved.
