HELPFUL TIPS FOR WRITING YOUR STATE REPRESENTATIVE

Be firm but polite.

Be brief.

Remember that this email is going out to the entire Legislative Select Committee on School Facilities. This is the Legislature’s counterpart to the School Facilities Commission, which is the governor-appointed body causing the problems.

Write your message in Step 2 of the form above, where it says “Personalize your message.” You can also change the subject of the email legislators will receive in the box above that.

REMEMBER TO DELETE THE TEXT ON STEP 2 OF THE FORM THAT SAYS “[INSERT MESSAGE HERE].”

Your message should have three parts. Use your own words (i.e. don’t copy and paste).

  1. Introduce yourself: My name is _______. I’m a _______ (parent, teacher, coal miner, concerned citizen, etc.) from Wyoming.
  2. Say what you want: Please do not allow the School Facilities Commission to increase the class size in Wyoming schools.
  3. Say why you want it: Students perform better in smaller classes, the Legislature should make policy instead of the commission, etc. See this article for more information.

If you’d like, you can thank the lawmakers for their work on behalf of Wyoming public schools. They like things like that.
